Sie wurde dabei zu einem weit über Mainz hinaus wahrgenommenen und anerkannten Forum für Gegenwartskunst. Das aufgearbeitete dokumentarische Text- und Bildmaterial der HALLE wird ergänzt durch HALLE-Rückblicke, die einige der beteiligten Künstlerinnen und Künstler für diese Buchausgabe verfasst haben. Daneben geht ein Essay auf die Hintergründe von HALLE und Mainzer Kunstverein ein, und stellt sie in Beziehung zu vergangenen Foren für zeitgenös­sische Kunst in Mainz. Dies umfasst den 1823 gegrün­deten Verein für Kunst und Literatur, der nach seiner Neugründung 1920 eine Hinwendung zur Moderne vollzog, die bis zur erzwungenen Auflösung 1933 anhielt.
