    "abstract" : [ "Vom Feld über die Zuckerfabrik zum Verbrauch – Zucker gab den Nationalsozialisten und der Kriegswirtschaft Energie. Ernährung war ein wichtiger Baustein nationalsozialistischer Politik, die nach 1933 und dem wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung auch darauf abzielte, die deutsche Gesellschaft auf den kommenden Krieg vorzubereiten. Die Nahrungsmittelindustrie und somit auch die 1926 entstandene Süddeutsche Zucker-AG spielten bei diesen Plänen eine wichtige Rolle. Das Unternehmen war sich dessen durchaus bewusst. So entfernte der Mannheimer Zucker-Konzern bis 1937 ohne größere Widerstände sukzessive jüdische Anteilseigner, Vorstands- und Aufsichtsmitglieder aus den Gremien und folgte damit der Politik des NS-Regimes. Die dezentral organisierten Zuckerfabriken griffen die Wachstumsimpulse der NS-Zeit auf und zogen in großer Zahl ausländische Zwangsarbeiterinnen und Zwangsarbeiter heran. Auch deutsche Juden, Sinti und Roma wurden an einzelnen Standorten ausgebeutet. Manfred Grieger zeichnet nach, wie das Unternehmen im sich ständig wiederholenden Rhythmus der Zuckerkampagnen – dem jährlichen Zeitraum der Ernte und Verarbeitung der Zuckerrüben – den Übergang in die NS-Diktatur und den Krieg fand. Zucker war auch direkt nach Kriegsende begehrt und so bereiteten die Beteiligten teilweise noch zu Kriegszeiten nahezu bruchlos die erste Nachkriegskampagne vor." ],
