Die Vielzahl der Funde ermöglichte es, eine Lebenslinie zu erstellen mit erstaunlichen Einblicken.Als Amtmann von Rhodt tritt Ribel aus dem Dunkel der Geschichte. Auf sein Betreiben erfolgte 1592 in Rhodt eine spektakuläre Hexenverfolgung. Aufgrund der guten Dokumentation wird der Amtmann als handelnde Person sichtbar. Sichtbar sind auch schon seine Schuldenmacherei, seine Selbstherrlichkeit, seine kriminelle Energie. Bis 1606 gibt es Belege, die dies alles bestätigen.In seinem Leben ging es hauptsächlich um Geld, das er nicht hatte, aber offenbar brauchte. Der Speyrer Bischof Eberhard von Dienheim war einer seiner Geldgeber. Für sein Ansehen sorgte seine Frau Margarete von Rechberg und deren Familie. Da er selber nicht adelig war, maßte er sich Adel an. „Kein Glück ohne Streit“ schrieb er in ein Stammbuch.Ribel ist für einen Menschen seiner Zeit weit herum gekommen. Er hinterließ Spuren in Straßburg und Stuttgart, in Bern und Luzern. Zuletzt finden wir ihn in Berlin.Sein größter Coup war die Errichtung einer Münzstätte, die wohl niemals Münzen prägte, ihm jedoch beträchtliche Schulden einbrachte und letztlich den Ruin. Er saß im Gefängnis, entfloh, wurde erneut festgesetzt und musste schließlich Urfehde schwören. Auf der Suche nach einem neuen Auskommen wandte er sich an Johann Georg von Brandenburg in Berlin. Er widmete ihm zwei Huldigungsschriften, die er selber in Reimen verfasste. Diese Schriften bilden den Schlusspunkt der überlieferten Dokumente. Allerdings gibt es ein Nachspiel durch den Sohn Ribels, der sich nach dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg in der Grafschaft zur Lippe-Detmold niederließ. Wir sehen ein verblüffend ähnliches Bild: Auch er wurde Amtmann, auch er agierte glücklos und wurde aus seinem Amt entlassen.
