Auf ihrem Weg gen Westen werden Emma und Lothar auf die Insel Sylt gespült, wo sie zwar Unterschlupf finden, doch weniger willkommen sind. Im Zuge einer staatlichen Umsiedlung nach Kriegsende verschlägt es sie in die Pfalz und Lothar findet sein Glück.
