Die einzigartigen Aufzeichnungen erlauben tiefe Einblicke in seinen Alltag und seine unzähligen Gespräche in einer Zeit dramatischer Umbrüche: von der Monarchie über die Weimarer Republik und die NS-Diktatur bis hin zur Besatzungsherrschaft und den Anfängen der Bonner Republik. Wie ließen sich die rasanten politischen und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen mit der Vorstellung einer ewigen göttlichen Ordnung in Einklang bringen? Wie reagierten Faulhaber, die katholische Kirche und der Vatikan auf Krieg und Frieden, auf Demokratie und totalitäre Ideologien und sich wandelnde Geschlechterrollen? Die Beiträge des Sammelbandes werten die Tagebücher im Blick auf diese Fragestellungen aus und beleuchten die bis heute kontrovers diskutierten Ambivalenzen, Brüche und Kontinuitäten in Faulhabers Denken und Handeln. Seine über 10.000 Tagebucheinträge hat Faulhaber in der heute nicht mehr geläufigen Gabelsberger-Kurzschrift verfasst. Ein interdisziplinäres Projektteam transkribierte die Quelle in zwölfjähriger Arbeit und machte sie vollständig in einer digitalen Edition (www.faulhaber-edition.de) öffentlich zugänglich." ],
