    "abstract" : [ "Die Studie ist erwachsen aus der seit fast drei Jahrzehnten intensiv geführten Debatte um die Entstehung des Lehnswesens. Dessen Existenz im Frühmittelalter wird von der Mehrheit der Forschung inzwischen abgelehnt, gleichzeitig bleibt aber offen, wann und wie eine Verbindung zwischen Lehen und Vasallität entstand. Anhand der Gesamtheit der Bamberger Bischofsurkunden von 1102 bis 1260 werden in dieser regionalen Fallstudie alle Leiheformen und herrschaftliche Bindungen mit einem begriffsgeschichtlichen Ansatz untersucht. Dank dieses ganzheitlichen Ansatzes erfolgt eine Neubewertung der Rolle von Lehen und der Durchsetzung des Lehnswesens im mittelalterlichen Franken.
